Every great scientist begins with a question. For thousands of children across India, that first spark of curiosity is nurtured at the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) celebration of ideas, experiments, and innovation by young minds.
Started in 1993 by the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India, the NCSC is more than just a science fair. It is a movement to encourage scientific temper among children aged 10–17 years, whether they are in school, outside the formal education system, or even specially-abled.
The motto is simple yet powerful: “Think locally, act globally.”
Children take up real-life problems from their surroundings, study them scientifically, and present their findings. From district to state to national level, the NCSC brings together thousands of such projects every year.
Hands-on Science: Students don’t just learn theories; they conduct experiments, gather data, and present results.
Relevance: Projects focus on local issues like water conservation, farming practices, biodiversity, waste management, health, and more.
Inclusivity: Open to school-going, out-of-school, rural, urban, tribal, and specially-abled children.
Skill Development: Teamwork, communication, presentation, and problem-solving all key skills for the future.
2025 Theme: “Understanding Ecosystem for Health and Well-Being” students showcased projects linking the environment and human health.
Children presented studies like “Birds: Backbone of Ecosystem” and “Adopt Traditional Farming Systems, Save Environment.”
Alongside traditional science, participants got exposure to drones, robotics, AR/VR, and modern technologies.
Each year, over 500,000 children across the country participate at the initial levels, with the best ideas making their way to the national stage. The products of these scientific inventions lead to make students capable of solving real-life problems. Many successful start-ups are outcomes of NCSC events. Abonics India is one of them!
India is a young country with immense talent, and platforms like the National Children’s Science Congress (NCSC) play a crucial role in nurturing this potential. They ignite curiosity by encouraging children to ask “why” and “how,” promote sustainability through projects that address pressing issues such as climate change, agriculture, health, and pollution, and help build future leaders by shaping tomorrow’s scientists, engineers, and innovators. At the same time, these initiatives strengthen community ties, as many projects directly benefit local neighborhoods and villages. Taken together, the bigger picture is clear: NCSC is not just a science event, but a movement that fosters inquiry, responsibility, and innovation among India’s youth. The National Children’s Science Congress is not just about winning medals or certificates. It is about creating a culture of scientific thinking among children, encouraging them to look at problems around them, and inspiring them to believe that they can be part of the solution.
As Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam once said: “Dream, dream, dream. Dreams transform into thoughts, and thoughts result in action.”
NCSC is where those first dreams take shape.
